This is an unpaid volunteer role for a Blockchain Software Developer with the Blockchain & Climate Institute (BCI), a volunteer-led international think tank focused on leveraging blockchain technology in the fight against climate change. The role involves conducting independent research, software development support across BCI's research divisions, supporting the development of DLT proof-of-concept applications, and engaging in conferences to promote BCI's mission. Candidates will have opportunities to work on multiple blockchain platforms and contribute to strategic collaborations. Education & Training: Relevant degree in Computing, Engineering, Math, or similar fields, with Master's or Ph.D. preferred. Experience producing research outputs is valuable. Credentials: Minimum 1 year experience in blockchain system development; competency with mainstream public chains like Bitcoin, Ethereum, Hyperledger; knowledge of Linux, Cloud infrastructures (AWS, Azure); proficiency with developer tools such as GitHub; understanding of consensus mechanisms and cryptographic algorithms; experience with various programming languages (Java, C++, Solidity, JS, Go, Python); experience with smart contracts and token standards (e.g. ERC20); familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, and microservices. Skills & Abilities: Excellent oral and written English communication; organizational skills; capability to work flexibly and professionally with stakeholders; presentation skills; proficiency in certain languages (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish) is a plus. General knowledge in climate change, blockchain technology, and AI is preferred. This volunteer role offers mental stimulation, career advancement through networking, and real-world experience in climate and emerging technologies intersection.
